Teeth Whitening is no longer considered to be a procedure
for which you need professional expertise. What started as a dental procedure
some two decades back is now considered to be a cosmetic procedure.
Teeth bleaching as it was known initially has been simplified
to such an extent that anyone can whiten his/her teeth in no
time without even stepping out of the house.
The easy availability and quick procedure of teeth whitening give rise several myths which need to be dispelled. Some of the facts people do not pay attention to are...
1. Higher peroxide solution means whiter teeth- partially true; hydrogen peroxide is the best bleaching agent for many other products as well. However it must be noticed that high concentration of peroxide in teeth bleaching agent is only meant for dentists who know your teeth's requirement. Home teeth whitening kits have moderate concentration of peroxide which is good enough.
2. Longer session means fewer sessions- false; if you keep the teeth whitening agent in touch with your teeth for longer than recommended period you may damage the enamel layer of your teeth which cannot be repaired. Repeated short sessions are much better than one long session.
3. Teeth sensitivity cannot be avoided- False; in fact teeth sensitivity entirely depends upon the bleaching gel and the duration for which it is used. If you do not read instructions carefully and put more bleaching gel in the trays and keep it longer in touch with your teeth, you may develop sensitivity.
